Milne calls for A93 to be given trunk road status

Nanette Milne, 13/01/2011

Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East has called on SNP Transport Minister, Keith Brown to visit Braemar to see at first hand the need for the A93 to be given trunk road status.

Nanette Milne has written to the New Transport Minister asking for a meeting to be organised with local residents and community campaigners in order for him to see at first hand the need for the road to be better maintained during winter months. Dr Milne raised the issue with the Scottish Government prior to Christmas.

Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East said:

“The A93 is the main route through from Aberdeenshire to Perthshire and that it is the only way to reach the area's largest winter employer, the Glenshee ski centre. The A93 is vital to Braemar's economic stability and a key component in helping the Cairngorms National Park Authority to achieve its fourth statutory aim, to promote sustainable economic and social development of the area's communities.

“I have written to the new Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Keith Brown to request a meeting not only to make the case for better maintenance of the A93 but also to look at how improving the local transport infrastructure can also help economic growth in the area.”
