Aberdeen City & Shire Council Tax Bills would increase by over £200 if Council Tax Freeze is scrapped

Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East has revealed figures which show that the average Band D household in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Council’s would see their Council Tax bill increase by £221 and £205 respectively if the freeze in the Council Tax was to end.

The Labour and Liberal Democrat parties have both stated that they want to see an end to the Council Tax Freeze which could see the average Band D household in Aberdeen City Council Tax increase from £1230 to £1451 and the average Band D household in Aberdeenshire Council Tax increase from £1141 to £1346.

Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East said:

“Since 2007 the Scottish Conservatives have been the only opposition party to support the Freezing of the Council Tax year on year. It has been a welcome relief to households across the North East who remember only too well the massive increases seen in the past under both Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

“At a time when families are feeling the pinch - government should do what it can to help. With the stated aim of both the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties to end the Council Tax Freeze, households across the North East could face significant increases in Council Tax Bills.”
