North East voters will have chance to end unfair funding formula in May

Dr Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East has hit out at SNP Ministers for failing to address the local government funding formula which sees both Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils receive a lower share of funding per head of population. Speaking after she raised the issue at Finance Questions and after SNP Finance Minister, John Swinney once again refused to take action to address the unfair funding situation.

Dr Nanette Milne, Conservative MSP for the North East said:

“I am hugely disappointed at the approach taken by the SNP Scottish Government which continues to preside over the unfair distribution formula which has consistently consigned both Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Councils to the bottom end of the funding league.

“Scottish Conservatives are committed to reviewing the funding formula for local government. In light of yet further cuts now being faced by Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils it is clear that SNP Scottish Ministers do not have any plans to address the situation and are happy to continue to see the North East shortchanged.

“The SNP clearly have a central belt bias. Voters in the North East will draw their own conclusions about who is really serious about addressing this unfairness at the elections in May.”
